Abstract: | On 6 June 1967, the Presidents of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda has signed in Kampala the East African Treaty of Cooperation, establishing the East African Community with its common services, common monetary system and complex common market. In June 1977 the Kenyan Government withdrew its civil servants and began to integrate them into its own administration, and in August the Tanzanians and the Ugandans were recalled too. The article deals with the background and the reasons of this failure, discussing the relations and tensions between the three countries, and their internal development. Ref. |
