Abstract:Directed change or intervention by social agencies at grassroots level might mean disturbing spontaneous activities such as self-help groups, and it would seem preferable to keep such outside interference to a minimum. Nevertheless, it sometimes becomes necessary to assist groups directly through financial aid or training. The present article looks at one type of assistance given to women's self-help groups in Kenya - leadership training for leaders of these groups. It evaluates this training under the following headings: the specific type of intervention, points of intervention, and impact of intervention. Commentary p. 190/192. Notes, ref., tab.
