Abstract: | Although she had a medical degree, from Edinburgh University, and had already spent one year overseas, in Aden Colony, the author did not go to Ibadan to heal the sick. She was simply accompanying her husband, Dr Peter Cockshott, who had been put in charge of the Department of Radiology at the hospital and, although she hoped to work too, she had no actual job for herself in prospect. In this medical memoir she describes how she got involved in health activities in Nigeria: First experiences of Ibadan - The Ibadan Blood Transfusion Service - Adeoyo Hospital - African art and culture - The Ibadan Cancer Registry - Kaposi's Sarcoma - Nigerian independence.
