Abstract: | The Toposa inhabit the wastelands of the southeast corner of the Democratic Republic of the Sudan. This paper explains the interaction between the Toposa and their African and British neighbours. Their resistance against the British encroachment had no link with modern Sudanese nationalism, but was caused by the land, or more precisely, its location, configuration and climate.
