Abstract: | Survey of the development of the Union Africaine et Malgache (UAM) to OCAM: the formation of the UAM at the Conference of Heads of State in Yaoundé on March 28, 1961, its activities and its relations to the Organization of African Unity (OAU), set up in Addis Ababa in May 1963. Then, at the Dakar conference in March 1964, the 14 members of the UAM agreed to direct the UAM, called henceforth Union Africaine et Malgache de Coopération Economique (UAMCE), toward economic, technical and social sectors exclusively. This was followed by the decision in February 1965 to establish a new agency named Organisation Commune Africaine et Malgache (OCAM), a grouping of French-speaking states within the framework of the OAU, absorbing the 6-month old UAMCE. It took over the functions of UAMCE, and also those of the specialized agencies of the UAM, the OAMCE, UAMD, and UAMPT, a.o. |
