Abstract: | Long before Nkrumah emerged in practical politics, Kobina Sekyi had, despite the comparatively unfavourable colonial environment, vigorously opposed the various forms of colonial establishment in Ghana. However, although Kobina Sekyi was one of Ghana's early nationalist stalwarts he rarely appears in histories of nationalism in Ghana. Here the author describes Sekyi's systematic protest against racism and autocracy of the colonial government and expatriate firms, his dogged opposition to indirect rule in all its forms, his pan-African activity, his search for an indigenous and viable political system that would replace the colonial administration, and his outstanding contribution as a leader of thought.
