Abstract: | Paper written for NOSEC: follow-up of the training session on arid and sub-arid environment, Niamey, 15 feb.- 6 march 1974, organized by the Environment Training Program IDEP-UNEP-SIDA. This document is a litteral translation of interviews conducted by Mr. Rives, Malam Ibrahim Ali, Moussa Hamidou, and the author. It is the first result of the application of a scheme for studying the socio-economic consequences of the drought. The survey took place between December 1973 and March 1974. At Hamdallaye, Rives, Moussa and the author interviewed the 74-year old head of the canton together with notables. The author had a discussion with a group of old men at Sarando, all the other farmers were interviewed at Niamey by Ibrahim Ali. Ibrahim Ali interviewed the stock-breeders from February to March at 'Camp Lazaret' in Niamey, except for no 18 who was interviewed in December 1973. Table, map. |
