Abstract: | Analysis of Kenya's foreign relations and the foreign policy that premises and prompts such relations - those with neighbouring countries, with the West, and with the communist nations. There have been continuities as well as discontinuities in Kenya's foreign policy from the Kenyatta to the Moi Governments. The most significant change has been a definite trend toward closer economic and political links with Tanzania and Uganda. With regard to the superpowers, a new development concerns Kenya's closer ties with the United States As far as the Eastern bloc is concerned, a significant change has been the emergence of much friendlier relations with the People's Republic of China. Finally, the conduct of Kenya's foreign policy itself has undergone a considerable transformation. Kenyatta tended to leave details to his foreign ministers; Moi has exhibited much more activism and direct involvement. Notes, ref. |
