Abstract: | Various methods of determining agricultural prices are discussed and it is argued that each alternative gives a different set of prices. On the basis of statistical testa it is examined whether the actual agricultural prices in Egypt over the period 1971-1980 differ significantly from the estimated prices. It is found that the actual prices for wheat, cotton and sugar are lower than the estimated prices, and that this difference is statistically significant. The difference of prices for maize and rice is not statistically significant, but it may be very significant from the farmers' point of view, The results indicate that actual farm gate prices are lower than the estimated prices for the main agricultural crops.
