Abstract:The field-organisation of the Central Bureau of Statistics (Ghana Government) acting under the direction of the Government Statistician, conducted, during the closing months of 1961 and the early part of 1962 an enquiry into the expenditures of private households and the consumption and sale of produce raised from the private holdings of - households. The enquiry was based on a sample of some 5, 000 households drawn at random from all parts of Ghana. The objectives of the enquiry were: To provide the national accounts division of the Central Bureau of Statistics with up-to-date information on consumption expenditure on the private sector of the economy and, to obtain a reliable basis for calculating a set of weights to be used in computing a national cost-of-living index. This report presents the results of the 1961-62 household expenditure survey in aggregate form for the main expenditure groups, by regions and for Ghana as a whole. Notes; tables.
