Abstract:Aim is to present estimates of expenditure elasticities for 14 groups of goods and services. The analysis is based on a sample of low and middle-income families in Ibadan. Using regression analysis, household expenditure in each of the 14 groups is related to: 1. total household expenditure; 2. household size. The data and the variables used in the analysis are discussed in sections 2, 3, 4; the model and the method of estimation are considered in section 5 sections 6 and 7 contain empirical results and a summary. In an appendix comparison is made of this study and the paper 'Expenditure Elasticities of Demand for Household Consumer Goods' in respect of Ibadan circulated by the Federal Office of Statistics in 1966.
