Abstract:	The small size of the sample, its casual basis and the many flaws implicit in the collection of annual budgets from the memories of informants, prevent the authors from drawing any but the most tentative of conclusions. Nevertheless they think it is still possible to say that in Mwinilunga Ndembu region at least, social change expressed in terms of the spread of cash economy is not taking place at an even rate nor does it influence all places and sectors of the people equally or in the same way.
