Abstract:The relations of Australia with South Africa are of many dimensions, both bilateral and multilateral, and the environment is highly politicized and dynamic. Commerce, communications, tourism, and sport are binding the two countries and racism and an obsession with military defence and anti-Communist alliances are deepening and activating the links. The Pretoria Government keenly seeks Australia's association. This is exposed in the following sections: Bilateral economic and communications links - The 1971 South African football tour: support for the Spring boks and suppression of protest - Multilateral economic ties - The two cultures: racism and colonialism - Military relations in the Indian Ocean - Realities of the Southern Africa web.
