Abstract:Tunisian emigration has grown in size and significance during the past decade. There has been a recent re-orientation of migration from France to Libya. This change has resulted in minor modifications in the character of migration. It has not reduced the political and economic problems which Tunisia faces as a consequence of its dependence on foreign labour markets. A comprehensive migration policy must be developed if the potential benefits which might accrue from worker emigration are to be realised. Sections: Introduction - The Tunisian labour market - Four phases of labour export - Migration prospects - Summary. Notes, tab.
