Abstract: | This paper seeks to supplement recent findings on the role of Sierra Leonean immigrants in Southern Nigeria. Much has been written about their role in the running of British colonial administration in Lagos, the political organization of some states, particularly in Yorubaland, the development of an indigenous press, the planting of Christian missionary stations and the operation of large-scale commerce. An attempt is made to discuss their activities in the field of law. It is shown what part they played in the establishment of modern legal institutions in Lagos, and what their professional activities were in the practice of the law itself. Notes. |
