Abstract:Describes the movement of the black loyalists, after the American War of Independence, from America via Canada to Africa and particulary what happened to them upon their arrival in Sierra Leone, West Africa, by answering the following questions: what was the nature of race relations in the settlement after the arrival of the black loyalists? - how successful were the black loyalists in finding the promised land? - how did the British administrators react to slave dealers who traded close to 'Freedom City'?
