Abstract:In early March 1977 twelve U.S. companies released a statement enunciating six principles regarding their future South African operations. These principles aim at a.o. higer wages and better benefits and training programs for blacks. The article examines whether these principles lead to basic social change. Conclusion: there is much work yet to be done before actions by U.S. corporations are decisive enough to result in significant change in the apartheid system.
