Abstract:This paper discusses what the managers of small businesses in Nigeria consider should be the content of management training programmes capable of meeting their needs. Topics most preferred were in the area of financial and accounting management, followed by marketing and planning. Topics relating to environmental protection, labour and personnel relations, organizational development and the use of modern management tools were least preferred. From the findings, the investigator concluded that seminar opportunities for small-business managers in Nigeria were not easily available and if they were, many managers did not know about them. However, there was sufficient interest to warrant organizing such seminars. External factors influencing participaton in management training seminars by managers of small business enterprises include location, costs, timing, and advance notification. Bibliogr.
