Abstract:Between 1939 and 1953 a finding of suicide was returned on 1.001 people in N.Rhodesia, of whom 945 were Africans. The inquest files on these deaths provided the raw material for this article. Distribution in time (Suicide peaks) - Distribution by age and sex; by tribal groups - Methods of suicide - Reasons: Personal conflicts (sickness, mental instability, worry, manners) - Family, marital and sexual conflicts.
