Abstract:To ask what Kenyan women want implies that there is some sort of dissatisfaction among this section of the population. What dissatisfies women cannot be easily summarised because women's needs are not monolithic. Despite divisions however women in Kenya, as elsewhere, have increased their attempts to organise around areas of common interest. In the process, they are gaining tolerance for differences among themselves that have been lacking in the past. The present paper is concerned with areas of common concern to all women regardless of their differences: education, policy matters, work, and child care values. Commentary p. 186- 187.
