Abstract: | At present in sub-Saharan African programmes of population education, potential technologies are not being fully exploi ted. A review is presented of current media use in school and out-of-school and the primacy accorded to textbooks in population education is challenged. The efficacy of substitute technologies (visual and audio-visual media) and of the strategy of enabling users toproduce their own media or involving professional artists in the production process is urged.
