Abstract: | Development Divisions are regional offices of the British Ministry of Overseas Development. This article examine the development of the Middle East Development Division (MEDD) and the exact role it has played in the British aid management in this region (with the African countries Egypt, Libya and Sudan). Its most important contribution is in being able to influence aid use within particular countries. Although, formally, MEDD's role is to advise, not to approve, expenditure, in practice the Ministry of Overseas Development rarely challenges its advice on technical and economic grounds. Notes. |
