| Abstract: | Much recent research in southern Nigeria has been directed toward the extremities of the distribution system (rural periodic markets) and little attention has been paid to exchanges at earlier stages of the distribution chain. In this paper, the rail distribution of imported goods in 1964 from two ports (Lagos and Port Harcourt) to twenty-four centres is scrutinized. An attempt is made to explain the volume of shipments to each destination with a simple model whose utility has been demonstrated elsewhere. A more comprehensive model is then developed to account for the rail distribution of imports in Nigeria, Ref., figures, tables. |
