Abstract:It is Mr. Lie's opinion that what is happening to-day in Africa plays an important role in the highly political tug-of-war between East and West. In this struggle between communism versus democracy the economically advanced countries in the free world must make it one of their most important tasks to assist the new democratic states in starting an economic expansion aiming at an economic adjustment between the rich and the poor countries. The aid to developing countries should be channelled through international organizations. Starvation, poverty and diseases must be fought first. Private investment in the developping countries and trade between the industrialized countries and the developing countries should be encouraged and developed. The article ends with the problem of preserving world peace.
