Abstract:Through the Yaounde Convention (apr. 1963) 18 independent African and Malagasy states are associated with EEC. At the same tine the Declaration of Intention stated the willingness of the member states of EEC to consider agreements with countries whose economic structures were similar to those of the Associated states. At present Nigeria, Kenya, Tanganyika and Uganda have responded to the 'Declaration' and have held exploratory talks with the EEC Commission in Brussels. The purpose of this article is to try to give a picture of the trade position in recent years of the countries concerned and not to discuss any policy matters, nor to attempt to forecast the future trade relationship.
