Abstract: | National reports on the eradication of illiteracy produced by 29 African countries were synthesized in a document entitled 'Regional Programme for the Eradication of Illiteracy in Africa' (22C/106) which was examined and approved by the General Conferece of Unesco at its twenty-second session and which authorized the Director-General of Unesco to take any steps within the framework of the Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) Organisation Programme and Budget for 1984-85. This article presents information on the programme for the eradication of illiteracy in Africa: historical background; characteristics; mechanisms and structures. |
