Abstract:In this paper the conjugal division of labour and the provision and allocation of income among urban 'elite' couples in Accra (Ghana) is analysed. Especially the effects of the husband's generation of education and the wife's educational level on the domestic organisation are considered. The conclusion is that the husband's generation of education and the wife's educational level do change the domestic organisation into a more closed system, but not with regard to all aspects, in the case of child-care and chores, openness was seen as beneficial.
