Abstract: | After a description of the ecological setting and a description of the four communities, the article describes the indigenous educational systems of the Samburu, Rendille, Gabra and Boran and shows that the British colonial impact and the post-independence measures taken to expand Western education have not eroded traditional practices among these people to the same extent as among agricultural and sedentary communities.
