Abstract:Discussing the suggestion in S.P. no. 10 of 1958/9 (Lands Tenure and control outside the Native Lands), that the pressure of population on land in some African reserves would be relieved if African settlement in the European Highlands was allowed, the authors draw some conclusions from the statistic evidence in the Report of the East African Royal Commission 1953-55 and show that the African population on arable land in the White Highlands is almost as dense as that on all potential arable land in the reserves. In an article 'The potential supply of arable land in Kenya and its productivity' they approach the problem of the overall shortage of arable land in Kenya in relation to the population which must be supported by a comparison with the conditions in the U.K. Tables, references. R.S. Odingo in 7 (1960/61), no. 1, p. 53-55 criticizes the first of these articles.
