Abstract: | Within the framework of the constant elasticity of substitution production function, the author estimates the elasticity of substitution between labour and capital in the agricultural sector in Egypt and investigates if technological change has occurred in that sector in the period 1952-1978. The results cast doubt on the capability of the agricultural sector to absorb more labour. This needs to be taken into consideration where future manpower planning is concerned. The study also indicates that there has been positive technological change in the agricultural sector in the period in question, though at a relatively slow rate. Ref. |
