Abstract:To meet the weaknesses and inadequacies of the pre sent educational system, the government of Upper Volta outlined an educational policy whose major objectives are stated in the Document on Educational Reform'. The plan advocates a vocational orientation for the secondary school system to start with, followed by the higher education system. Aim is to establish close links between 'the learning process and the production process', with a view to satisfying the needs of the community and the school. Making no specific reference to any particular experiment, the authors of the plan are no doubt familiar with a project that has been going on since 1969 in the Training Centre for Women's Occupations and Handicrafts at Ouagadougou. The main body of this article is focused on the establishment of the Training Centre: its origins, its objectives, the preconditions for its establishment, its instructional curricula, and the results achieved.
