Abstract:With the appointment of a Director in 1949, the Extra-Mural Department of the University of Ibadan introduced public lectures on topics ranging from politics, agriculture, health care, local government, and sociology to African culture. It also sponsored series of talks on radio programme on subjects such as zoology, chemistry and botany. The better known work was the provision of evening classes in almost all subjects examined by the University of London for the General Certificate of Education. The article describes the work and analyzes the capacity of the present extra-mural studies in Nigeria. Notes; ref. Bibl. p. 193-195.
