Abstract:This study presents the different experiments conducted in the Congo in the context of the literacy campaign. The role of specific functional literacy projects in the rural development programme and In the semi-industrial sectors is discussed. The requisite assessment of these projects is made, and conclusions are drawn to be used in orienting future activities. In addition, the initiatives taken which resulted in the organization of the Adults Education Research Centre are discussed. Finally, along general lines, the crucially important issue of the implementation of a new, redynamized literacy campaign in 1983, prelude to a national literacy campaign aimed at the total eradication of illiteracy in the Congo, is discussed.
