Abstract: | Analysis of the political economy of customary law in the English-speaking countries of Africa. The authors describe the difficulties which require explanation and solution, that is, the poverty and vulnerability of the mass of Africa's people, and attempt an explanation which takes the legal order as the manipuiable variable. They argue that customary law must be seen as an important component of the law of the labour reserve. At its core, customary law in Africa has become part of the machinery of oppression. If Africa will do away with oppression, it must transform customary law. Ref. |
