Abstract: | The World Bank Group has fully directed its attention to bridging the critical gap in resources availability, especially capital and skilled labour, for Africa's development. The way and manner in which the World Bank has committed its resources to fulfill this role of facilitating the development of Africa is discussed in the present article, in the following sections: growth of the Bank Group lending in Africa (slow expansion before mid-1960s; rapid expansion after the mid-1960s) - greater attention to the least developed countries - sectoral financing (transportation; agriculture; education; electricity; industry; other sectors) - technical assistance - non-project lending - has the World Bank Group done enough? (the first school of thought; the second school of thought) - expansion programme for Africa - conclusion and summary. Notes, tab. |
