Abstract:The school site of Dedza Secondary School, situated on the western slopes of Dedza mountain in the Angoni. Highlands, was taken over by the Nyasaland Government in 1952. The intention was to establish a smal farm to provide food for the boys and the staff of the school and to demonstrate to the boys that farming can be a pleasan and profitable livelihood'. In 1961 the farm was established, A tenant farmer was allowed to rent I the farm and was prodided with a house. farm bouldings and assistance with the removal of tree stumps. In October, 1962, it was possible to look back over a year's farming, to assess the achievements, and to modify plans for the future. The farm has shown the way to the solution of a number of the agricultural problems of the hill region. Figures; references.
