Abstract: | Against the background of the Farm Institute Settlement Scheme, launched in the Western and Midwestern States of Nigeria in 1959/60 and in the Eastern States in 1962 - a scheme based on the principles of Israeli Moshavin, i.e. individually owned and operated farms with co-operatively owned and operated services -this study's major objective is to derive, using a polyperiod linear programming model, an optimal farm plan over a period of years within the restraints of managerial skill, land and family living expense requirements. In this sense is determined which crop and livestock enterprises are optimum over a series of years for the individual settlers with given level of resources and certain minimum restraints on the amount of income forthcoming monthly for living expenses.
