Abstract:The UNDP/Irrigation and Pilot Demonstration Project, Mubuku, was started in 1964 with the assistance of United nations Special Fund FAO and the government of Uganda. There are 26 settlers in all on the project presently, only six have been for more than 1,5 years, the remaining 20 have been on the project for six months only. This study refers to the first six settlers who were admitted to the project in August, 1966, and have completed two crop seasons, namely late season 1966 and early season 1967. The results presented refer to these two crop seasons. The information reported in the paper is the first intensive study of its type for irrigated farming in Uganda: Introduction-Settlers and their family composition - Land use and cropping programme - Cultivation and maintenance - Individual crops - Gross farm income - Cultivation expenses - Labour - Profits and disposable income - Family expenses - Concluding remarks.
