Abstract:	This paper is an investigation into the operations of sand mining which is carried out along the rivers and creeks between Lagos and Ikorodu. The paper deals with the nature of the material itself, the location and situation of the sites from which it is currently being mined, the methods of exploitation, the quantity involved, the organisation of the mining activity and the appraisal of the contribution of sand mining to the building industry.
