Abstract:Results of an enquiry into the extent of labour turn.-over and absenteism amongst unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers It appeared that there is an effect of the promotion of workers on rates of labour turnover which, although on the whole low, is the highest for the semi-skilled workers. This group has some skill which enables them to obtain other jobs, while on the other hand they are not fully incorporated into the organization of the mills. An analysis of some elements of cost, namely the direct costs of a labour reserve, and the direct and indirect costs of training of skilled workers who leave the mill before they have proved their usefulness, showed that those costs don't affect unfavourably the costs of production. Therefore, other factors than the investigated ones, must be hold responsible for the large difference which exists between the domestic costs and the prices of imported textiles. Tables, ref.
