Abstract:The Ghanaian development plan of 1975/6-1979/80 has identified small-scale rural industries as important in industrialisation strategy. Yet a major problem facing the Ghanaian government is a dearth of'information on small-scale industries and traditional technologies upon which effective policies for improvement can be based. The present paper aims to provide such information for one such industry - narrow-loom weaving - focussing attention on the technology and organisation of the craft and the problems inherent in attempting to improve it.
