Abstract:During the years 1974-79 the industrial sector in Egypt succeeded in scoring favourable achievements, mainly highlighted in the continuous increase in output, exports and sales as well as the growth in the volume of labor force engaged therein. However, the industrial sector share in GDP retreated from 17.8% in 1974 to 16.4% in 1979. The number of people employed in the industrial sector recorded an annual growth rate of 2.9% during the same period, accounting for 12.8% of the total growth rate of employment which reached 3.1%. This review of the Egyptian industry's performance is confined to the public sector only. Moreover, the survey dwells upon the investment realized in relation to actual output in the public sector, the number of workers and their distribution among the various industries as well as production, value added, domestic sales and exports. The problem of stocks and causes thereof, particularly in the textiles sector is also tackled besides some indicators in respect of wages and productivity in the industrial public sector.
