| Abstract: | Nigeria's Third National Development Plan, 1975-1980, is based on the proposition that judicious use of current oil revenues to build social and economic infrastructures, and to radically transform the nature of economic activity, represents the quickest and most effective means of development. Top priority is to be given during the period 1975 to 1980 to manufacturing in the belief that an industrial base is the firmest foundation for self-sustained growth. The manufacturing sector subsumes two sub-sectors: medium and large-scale manufacturing, and small-scale activities. This note is primarily concerned with the large and medium-sized manufacturing sub-sector. In order to learn what strategy is implied in the Third Development Plan is determined first which industries would be favoured if a particular strategy is followed. Several strategies are Discusses in this context. Then is determined to what extent the strategies discussed are conflicting or reinforcing. Notes, tab. |
