Title:The promotion of craft and rural industry in Tanzania

Abstract:In Tanzania the in 1965 formed National Small Industries Corporation (N.S.I.C.) is in principle responsible for the promotion of the whole range of small-scale industry. In addition it aims to promote cottage industry and to improve the working conditions of artisans. So far the N.S.I.C. has concentrated on the promotion of craft and cottage industries. At the moment it operates a set of workshops for artisans at Kisarawe Street, Dar-es-Salaam, run as an industrial estate, and it is in charge of a Cottage Industries Training Centre. It is the plan to have some 250 industrial workshops and 10 additional common facilities for artisans, spread throughout Tanzania.
