| Abstract: | The role of women in Mpondo society (Transkei) is explained, giving special attention to amadikazi (liberated women), women who shun the responsibilities and restrictions imposed by marriage. After one or more marriages they return to their father's homestead. Indulging in numerous love affairs, they bring up their children and use their abundant leisure time to do basketry, beadwork and embroidery. Ref., sum. in Afrikaans. |
