Abstract: | From the beginning of the 20th century William Lever (born in 1851) was interested in Africa as a potential supplier of palm oil and palm kernels. The article describes the negotiations with the Colonial Office for palm oil concessions in West Africa and the political implications these negotiations brought about in Britain. This examination of the role of a representative syndicate indicates the ethos of the commercial world of those days. Notes. |
