Abstract:Theme of this paper is to illustrate the practical application of geography, as an academic discipline, to various aspects of human activities, and to examine whether local geographers are utilizing the knowledge acquired in geography to solve some of the social and economic problems facing a developing nation like Nigeria. After some examples from other parts of the world of what is I meant by practical application of geography, follows examination whether geographers in Nigeria are fulfilling any similar role. Ref.
