Abstract:The material presented here is the outcome of fieldwork in the Khuway and Mazrub areas in north central Sudan. The study was initially prepared as Working Paper No. 3 for the Environmental Training and Monitoring Programme for Africa project carried out jointly by Clark University and the University of Khartoun. The central theme of the study is the physical and socioeconomic environmental impact of water-supply centres on the areas and populations served by such centres. This paper concentrates on the socioeconomic impact. Bibliogr., notes.
