| Abstract: | Description of the land settlement in Ibadan as illustrated by the site aquired for the permanent buildings of the University college. Before building a count was made of all economic trees and of houses. Unfortunately the survey merely measured the land held by an individual, bot only that held by an ale or lineage. Because annual crops were to be reaped before eviction, no record of these were made, since compensation was to be paid solely for trees and buildings. There is no record, however, of the number and type of trees held by each individual. The author used the records of compensation paid, and visited the lineage heads to ascertain how their families acquired land and present ownership. |
