The first three sections of this paper concern the nature and scope of past rural water development in Tanzania. The sections 4-7 describe the financial arrangements, the regional allocations, project selections, and project economics. In sections 8-10 the rural water supply developmerib over the second five year plan (1969-1974) and long term programmes are outlined.
